The nominations for the 16th Annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Grand Jury Prize are in and a number of Hollywood notables have been listed. Among those nominated include Kimberly Elise, Common, Isaiah Washington and S. Epatha Merkenson.

According to ABFF.com, the films in which they were nominated were directed by a person of African descent, tell a story of the Black experience and featured a person of African descent in a leading role.

The films are then submitted and screened by industry professionals and graded upon artistic merit and impactful subject matter. The films are then judged by the Grand Jury President who will present the prizes at the Festival. This year’s judge is tv-film-stage actor Mekhi Phifer.

Congratulations to all of our thespians and good luck!  The ABFF is June 20-23 in South Beach Miami, FL.
