TAKE A LOOK: Kirk Franklin ~ ‘Love Theory’ (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Kirk Franklin is back with a hot new single titled, “Love Theory,” and we’re here for it. The uptempo song not only inspires but it makes you wanna do a two-step for Jesus.

How can it be that you love the most unlovable part of me, of me?
How could you see your life was the only gift I’ll ever need to be free?
It’s amazing with you, I win even if I lose
Everything’s working for my good for always

“Love Theory” comes from Franklin’s forthcoming album and thirteenth studio project. Franklin will probably performed the song for the first time this week during the taping of the highly anticipated Super Bowl Gospel Celebration. He will be sharing the stage with Tasha Cobbs Leonard, The Winans and a myriad of other Gospel superstars and football players.

The Super Bowl Gospel Celebration airs on Sunday, February 2 on BET. Franklin will also be hosting the 34th Annual Stellar Gospel Music Awards on March 29.

New Music Monday – Janet Jackson ‘Made for Now’ feat. Daddy Yankee (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Today’s NEW MUSIC MONDAY pick comes from pop music icon and my boo – JANET JACKSON. The song is titled “Made for Now” and features Daddy Yankee.

The music video reminds me of Jackson’s classic tune, “When I Think of You” with a dash of “Got Til It’s Gone” and “Escapade” and features a cool mix of Afrobeats, Latin Pop and Reggae Dancehall. It was shot on location in Brooklyn, NYC and showcases a legion of international dancers and performers. “Made For Now” comes from her forthcoming album.

In addition to the new song, Jackson continues to sell out venues with her current “State of the World Tour” and will receive the coveted BMI Icon Award next week in Atlanta, GA.

Is Sade working on a new album? (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

ESSENCE is reporting that Grammy winning songstress—SADE—is currently working on new music for an upcoming album.

Stuart Matthewman, one of her original band members and collaborator, reportedly spilled the beans during an interview with Rate R&B where he revealed the “Smooth Operator” was back in the studio.

“We’re working on a new album,” Matthewman said, noting the group has “a bunch of songs” fans will love.  Matthewman added, “[Sade’s] not interested in the fame or any of that [other] stuff. She likes to put out art. So when it’s ready, it will come out.”

It’s been eight years since her last project, Soldier of Love.

Sade did tease us earlier this year with the tune, “Flower of the Universe,” which she wrote for Ava DuVernay‘s epic film, A Wrinkle in Time.

If you haven’t had a chance to see her in concert, you’re missing out. It’s everything you think it would be and then some.

Janelle Monáe stars in Jordan Peele’s ‘Noir Town’ for W Magazine [PHOTOS]

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Janelle Monáe and Jordan Peele are having way too much fun in this amazing spread for W Magazine. The Get Out director and Oscar nominee has teamed up with the Grammy nominated starlet for a retelling of Alfred Hitchcock classics through fashion titled Noir Town.

The project features Monáe as a private investigator and photographer searching for clues to a murder only to find out that she may very well be the suspect. The closer she gets to discovering the killer, the more she sees a darker side of herself. Each image features the Hidden Figures actress in Vertigo inspired looks from Michael Kors, Valentino, Burberry, Gorgio Armani, Dsquared2 and more.

“I didn’t want the Hitchcock heroine,” explained Peele. “I wanted the Hitchcock hero. That way, we can reclaim this movie that we never got to see. The fear of gender and race robs us of beautiful pieces of film.”

The shoot comes on the heels of Monáe announcing a new album as well as the release of her new single, “Dirty Computer.” The untitled project will be debut this spring and will be accompanied by a narrative film. CONGRATS JANELLE!

2018 is shaping up to be a great one so far for Grammy winning singer and budding actress Mary J. Blige. The “No Drama” vocalist has been nominated for quite a few awards this season (NAACP Image Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards) for her supporting role as Florence Jackson in Dee Rees‘ “Mudbound.”

Blige also just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame that was presented to her by mentors and friends Sean “Diddy” Combs and Andre Harrell.

With that being said, it is only befitting that the “Queen of Hip Hop Soul” grace us with some theme music for all of these accolades titled “Bounce Back 2.0.” The single was released the other day and is an ode to her throngs of female supporters.

We be so foolish (so foolish)
If we just give it up (give it up)
No, we’re not perfect (no, no, no, no)
Because we all mess up (umm)

Look what we’re made of
We see these flaws do love
And each time we get further
Won’t change a thing
Ain’t worry ’bout it, no

Check it out below and tell us if you feelin’ it!
