It was all about female empowerment Wednesday night (May 14) as Spelman College held its 10th Annual Legacy of Leadership Awards Dinner at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta. The event was part of a two-day conference recognizing the indelible mark women of color have made in education, business and media/entertainment. The event was sponsored by American Family Insurance and was hosted by Spelman alum and Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson and RLO Managing Partner, Rita Love Owens.
This year’s honorees included Hiroko Tatebe, Founder & Executive Director of Global Organization for Leadership & Diversity (GOLD); Linda Johnson Rice, Chairman of Johnson Publishing Company, LLC (creators of EBONY and JET ) and Civil Rights icon and long standing Spelman professor, Dr. Christine King Farris.
Also on hand to celebrate were Mitzi Miller, Editor-in-Chief of EBONY, Mikki Taylor, Editor-at-Large of ESSENCE and Traci Lynn Blackwell, VP of Current Programs at The CW Network .
AmFam’s Multicultural Marketing Manager, Francisa Brown honored Spelman College president, Dr. Beverly D. Tatum with a token of appreciation from the “BECAUSE OF THEM, WE CAN…” campaign. Beauty expert, journalist and Spelman alum Tai Beauchamp hosted The Blue Carpet, which recognized Spelman’s alumnae stars.
