Raheem singing “Woman” and “Ridiculous” during the Tom Joyner Famly Reunion

Grammy-nominated singer Raheem DeVaughn is putting his talent to good use. The R&B crooner recently announced that proceeds from his new single, “Trigga Man,” will benefit the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

DeVaughn was inspired to write and record the song after George Zimmerman was declared innocent of murdering Trayvon Martin last month.  “America is at a tipping point,” says DeVaughn. “This country has made huge accomplishments, but it’s still very much divided. The undertone of racism still exists and modern day slaves still exist.”

The song which is currently on sale via iTunes is styled in the same vein as Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Goin On” and features veteran rapper Styles P as well as DeVaughn speaking for Martin in a kind of open letter to George Zimmerman.

“Dear murderer,” he sings. “Did you ever stop to think that I coulda been a surgeon, a father, a grandpa one day? Did you ever stop to think…or was it hatred on your mind?”
