As if we didn’t see this one coming…

After less than a year, multi-Grammy winner Alicia Keys has ended her role as global creative director of BlackBerry. As of January 30, she will no longer serve in that position with the telecommunications and wireless company.

As previously reported, Keys was brought on board last January to assist with the marketing efforts of  the company’s BlackBerry 10 campaign, which featured two phones, a touch screen only model and a traditional keyboard style. However, the new smartphone failed to resonate with consumers as well as its fierce competitors like Google and Apple. As a result, a few of the company’s executives were fired including CEO Thorsten Heins.

While it’s not clear if Keys resigned from the position or was terminated, BlackBerry did release the following statement regarding her stint as global creative director.

“We thank Alicia for her many contributions including providing creative direction for the BlackBerry Keep Moving Project which attracted more than 40 million visits, advocating for women in STEM and launching the BlackBerry Scholars Program. We have enjoyed the opportunity to work with such an incredibly talented and passionate individual.”
