Just last week, RC posted a story about singer/songwriter Frank Ocean penning a song for the “Django Unchained” soundtrack. Then when the cover art and tracklist was released a few days later, neither Ocean nor his song were listed amongst the credits, which left us asking, “what happened?”
Well, according to Django director Quentin Tarantino the song just didn’t work within the existing framework.
“Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way, there just wasn’t a scene for it,” Tarantino said in a statement. “I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that’s not why he wrote it and not his intention. So I didn’t want to cheapen his effort. But, the song is fantastic, and when Frank decides to unleash it on the public, they’ll realize it then.”
Django Unchained soundtrack features an all-star line-up including Rick Ross, John Legend, James Brown, Tupac, Anthony Hamilton and jazz legend Pat Metheney. The film’s star Jamie Foxx also contributes to Ross’ track, 100 Black Coffins.
Django Unchained and all its glory opens in theaters on December 25.
