Rappers Will Smith and Jay-Z are joining forces to present a new documentary about the life of political activist, Angela Davis.
According to VIBE, their two companies Overbrook Entertainment and Roc Nation will executive produce Free Angela Davis and All Political Prisoners, a film directed by Shola Lynch.
The movie marks the 40th anniversary of her acquittal and chronicles her journey throughout the case. The film will also include in-depth interviews with her lawyers, FBI agents and journalism coverage.
Jay-Z spoke very highly of the director and the project, “Shola Lynch has crafted an intricate and compelling film about Angela Davis. Roc Nation is honored to be a part of a creative collective that can present such a riveting story.”
“Free Angela Davis…” will be shown at this year’s Toronto Film Festival.
