Here is the latest BUZZ in TV News…
Veteran actress Salli Richardson has been added to the new season of BET’s record-breaking series Being Mary Jane. Reportedly, Richardson-Whitfield will play an old friend to Gabrielle Union’s character. This will be a recurring role for the ageless beauty, who is slated to appear in five episodes.
I had the pleasure of talking to Richardson-Whitfield on Sunday night at the UNCF An Evening of Stars where she revealed that she was currently filming a movie with Ava DuVernay. She is also presenting a new Broadway production based on the life of the late Lena Horne. While she wouldn’t give a lot of details on either one of the projects, she did tell me to “stay tuned!”
In other related news, Oxygen has given the greenlight to a number of new shows including Fix My Choir and Sisterhood of Hip-Hop. The first series, Fix My Choir features Preachers of LA’s Deitrick Haddon and Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams. The two award-winning gospel singers will provide some much needed mentoring and support to several struggling choirs.
Sisterhood of Hip-Hip follows the next generation of female rappers including Siya, Nyemiah Supreme, Diamond, Brianna Perry and Bia. The series, not to be confused with MC Lyte’s Hip-Hop Sisters, gives viewers a birds-eye-view into the lives of these women aiming to become hip-hop’s next big thing. T.I. will serve as the show’s executive producer.
RC will keep you posted as these projects continue to develop.
