Longtime musical collaborators Toni Braxton and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds are joining Fantasia in the new Broadway musical, After Midnight. The show pays tribute to jazz great Duke Ellington and his glory days at Harlem’s Cotton Club. Set against a narrative backdrop of Langston Hughes poetry, the show is musically directed by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Wynton Marsalis.
Braxton and Edmonds are just a few of the big names singers who are coming on board. Their appearance in the show will be reminiscent of the club’s tradition of guest headliners and is only for two-weeks.
As previously reported, Fantasia will open the show beginning with previews October 18 along with an official opening night on November 3. Singer-actress, K.D. Lang will take the lead beginning February 11 through March 9, while Braxton and Edmonds will headline March 18-30.
After Midnight is just one of many new joint projects for Braxton and Edmonds. The two have also produced a duets album called Love, Marriage & Divorce and have already released the first single entitled, “Hurt You.” Check it out below:
