Fantasia opens the new season of ‘UNCENSORED’ (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Check out a sneak peek of TONIGHT’s season opener of UNCENSORED featuring one of my favs—FANTASIA.

Long before she rose to fame as the winner of the third season of American Idol in 2004, Fantasia was always destined for greatness. Fantasia grew up in a large, musically inclined family that was heavily involved in church. Disputes with her father led her to move out of her family’s home, drop out of school and eventually leave the church. Fantasia bounced around on friends’ couches until she became pregnant. The struggles of being a teenage mother solidified her relationship with God and with the help of her grandmother, she rejoined the church and moved back home with her family. Through the encouragement and support of her local community, Fantasia tried out for and eventually won American Idol. With the success of American Idol came the realities of becoming an instant music sensation and household name. On this episode of UNCENSORED, Fantasia gets real about how the pursuit of stardom can drive people to unhappiness. She reveals how close friendships with Patti LaBelle and Aretha Franklin helped her navigate her voice, career and personal life along the way. Launching a new business “Rock Soul” that focuses on the next steps for her career and music, Fantasia is ready to give back and take control of her voice once again.

The popular show UNCENSORED resumes for its second season and explores the private lives of some of today’s most notable personalities including comedian/radio host DL Hughley, legendary hip-hop producer Jermaine Dupri, actress Tasha Smith, reality TV star Tami Roman, actress/singer Naturi Naughton and the reigning king of urban gospel Kirk Franklin. Viewers will get a glimpse into the lives of celebrities as they personally reveal their own stories, in their own words.

Fantasia releases her new album ‘The Definition Of…’ (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

CONGRATS to one of my favorite “sangers,” Fantasia! The Grammy winning-vocalist, Broadway actress, reality star and musical phenom released her fifth studio album, The Definition Ofon Friday with much fanfare.  The #RockSoul project features the singles “No Time For It” and “Sleeping With The One I Love” plus “So Blue” and “Ugly.” It also includes my new favorite song “I Made It,” which she performed this week on “Good Morning America.”

Here’s what the “American Idol” winner had to say about her new album:

“After 12 years in the music industry it was time to take control of my destiny. I fought to create an album that truly embodies my love of music from all genres. My core will always be Soul music but I also grew up listening to Gospel, Rock, Jazz and Country. After performing in two Broadway shows my love for Jazz was also reignited. Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, James Brown, Elton John – I pull my inspiration from these legends and their timeless catalogs. I poured my heart into this album and I’m so happy to share this moment with my fans.”

Check out a behind-the-scenes video of the album’s photo shoot that was directed by Atlanta’s own Derek Blanks!

Fantasia announces new single ‘No Time For It’ (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Grammy-winning singer and my favorite “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino has “opened a door to a New Chapter of Life” and simply has “No Time For It.” Not only is that her new mantra for the next 12 months but is also the title of her new soon-to-be-released single. The former Broadway actress announced the news Wednesday morning via Twitter:

“New Single… No Time For It 🎤. Can’t sleep cause I’ve waited for this moment..Mind steady racing with ideas..”

Just last month, Barrino parted ways with her long time manager Brian Dickins and is now signed to Primary Wave Entertainment. According to SingersRoom.com, Barrino’s new management team represents such versatile entertainers as CeeLo Green and Gabrielle Union and vows to expand Barrino’s career with more TV/film opportunities.

Congrats Fantasia! We are so looking forward to the release of “No Time For It” and hopefully a new album.  Check out more photos of our Rock Soul queen in action during her recent Atlanta engagement at the Fox Theater + her performance of “Lose To Win” courtesy of ShagoElizondo.
