Congratulations to Pharrell Williams!
The Grammy-winning producer will perform his original song “Happy” from the Despicable Me 2 film at this year’s Academy Awards. The big news was announced Tuesday.
As previously reported, Williams’ song is up for “Best Original Song.” According to THR, if Williams wins, he will become the third rapper to receive an Oscar. Eminem won for” Lose Yourself” from 8 Mile and Three Six Mafia for “Its Hard Out Here for a Pimp” from Hustle & Flow.
Williams will also have some pretty tough competition in this category. His song is up against Frozen’s “Let It Go,” “The Moon Song” from HER and U2’s “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which has already picked up a Golden Globe.
