Rumors are circulating on the web that Grammy-winning singer Adele could be playing blue-eye soul icon Dusty Springfield in a new biopic. According to TheGrio, Adele is attached to a new film about the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame singer who scored dozen of hits during the 60’s and 70’s and is best known for the song, “Son of A Preacher Man.” The untitled project has reportedly been in development for quite some time but is now gaining momentum due to Adele’s interest in the lead role. So far, Adele has not confirmed nor denied the claim.
Shadow and Act is reporting that versatile actor Forest Whitaker will produce and now star in a film about former Secretary of State, Colin Powell. The titled project, POWELL, will focus on the behind-the-scenes story of how Powell addressed the U.N. and made a case for the war in Iraq. No further details about the film have been released.
Whitaker has portrayed a variety of iconic men throughout his career including infamous dictator Idi Amin, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, jazz legend Charlie Bird Parker and most recently Eugene Allen in Lee Daniels’ The Butler.
In August, we reported that actresses Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were possibly reuniting with The Help director Tate Taylor for the James Brown biopic, Get On Up. Well Indie Wire, is now confirming that the two stars will indeed be a part of the film that features Chadwick Boseman as the Godfather of Soul.
Reportedly, Davis will play James’ mother Susie Brown while Spencer will play Anne Tunney, Brown’s aunt. It is also being reported that True Blood star Nelsan Ellis is being considered for a role in the film as well.
As previously reported, Get On Up is based on the incredible life story of the James Brown. It gives a fearless look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Get on Up opens in theaters Oct. 17, 2014.
