Lifetime is gearing up to premiere two of its three Black History Month films.
This Saturday, the network will debut “Betty & Coretta” starring Angela Bassett as Coretta Scott King and Mary J. Blige as Dr. Betty Shabazz. The film, which chronicles the lives of the two civil rights widows, also stars Malik Yoba as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Lindsay Owen Pierre as Malcolm X and legendary television and screen actress Ruby Dee.
The second film, “Twist of Faith” stars Grammy-winning singer Toni Braxton, Forrest Gump’s Mykelti Williamson and David Julian Hirsh. Originally called A Moment In Time and then A Narrow Bridge, Twist of Faith features Hirsh as Jacob Fisher, a Jewish singer/songwriter from Brooklyn who runs away after witnessing the death of his wife and three children. He ends up in Brent, Alabama where he meets Nina (Braxton), a single mother and the lead singer of a small gospel choir, her Uncle Moe (Williamson) and their gospel community that helps him return to life through music.
As previously reported, Braxton’s 9-year-old son Diezel will play her son in the movie.
Twist of Faith debuts next Saturday, February 9th at 8pm ET/PT.
