CONGRATS to my acting friends—Neal Ghant, Tonia Jackson, Eugene Russell and E. Roger Mitchell. They all have been cast in the upcoming Kenny Leon True Colors Theatre production of August Wilson‘s “King Hedley II. ” The show opens in February as part of the company’s Black History Month celebration.

Set in the 1980s inner city Pittsburgh, ex-con King Hedley II peddles stolen refrigerators to save up for his own business and hopefully, a new life. Desperately fighting to overcome his record, family and a world that’s against him, King spends his time trying to plant seeds in a garden where nothing can grow. This becomes the perfect metaphor for his life and his dreams seemingly doomed to a violent end.

“King Hedley II” is Wilson’s ninth play within the Pittsburgh Cycle. It is considered by many to be his darkest and most symbolic story with a haunting and challenging tragedy of Shakespearean proportions.

This production is directed by Jamil Jude and also stars Eddie Bradley and Tiffany Denise Hobbs. Previews begin February 13-15th at 7:30 PM.

Opening Night is February 16. Click here for tickets!
