Hip Hop icons Salt-N-Pepa and are celebrating their 30 years in the music industry in a major way.  While attending the Trumpet Awards over the weekend, the trio (Cheryl ‘Salt’ James, Sandy ‘Pepa’ Denton and Deidra ‘Spinderella’ Roper) revealed to press that they are currently working on a variety of projects including a cooking show (Cooking with Salt-N-Pepa), a “Push It” Active Wear Line and a biopic about their musical careers.

The rappers from Queens (NYC) first bursted onto the music scene in 1985 and went on to become one of hip hop’s biggest female acts.  Their classic hit records include “Tramp,” “Chick on the Side,” “My Mic Sound Nice” and their Grammy-nominated single “Push It.”  The trio would eventually go on to become the first female rap act group or solo to go gold or platinum and won a Grammy Award in 1995 for “None of Your Business.”  The also picked up four MTV Awards in 1994 for “Whatta Man feat. En Vogue” Other hits include “Shake Yo Thang,” “Shoop,” “Expressions,” and their revolutionary HIV/AIDs awareness anthem, “Let’s Talk About Sex.”  Their music was groundbreaking and opened the door for many other female rap acts to follow.

Be sure to watch Salt-N-Pepa “shake their thang” as they open up this year’s Trumpet Awards as part of a tribute to “Ladies of Rap.”  The show airs this Friday, January 29 at 9  p.m. EST and on the 31st at 3 p.m. EST on BOUNCE TV.

Who would you cast as Salt-N-Pepa in a biopic?
