Famed director Spike Lee is back and this time he is taking on the gang violence of Chicago in a new musical comedy titled, Chi-Raq.
According to the film’s website, Chi-Raq is a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play, “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes. After the murder of a child by a stray bullet, a group of women led by Lysistrata organize against the on-going violence in Chicago’s Southside creating a movement that challenges the nature of race, sex and violence in America and around the world.
The film stars Survivor’s Remorse star Teyonah Parris along with an all-star casting including Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Jennifer Hudson, D.B. Sweeney, Harry Lennix, Steve Harris, Angela Bassett, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson.
