Congratulations are in order to Sr. VP of Production for Columbia Pictures, DeVon Franklin. He recently inked a first-look production deal with Sony.  According to VARIETY, Franklin and his production company, Franklin Entertainment will develop and produce television and film projects that will appeal to both faith-based and urban markets.

“This is a plan tailor-made for DeVon’s specific skill set and interests,” Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures told Variety. “It’s clear that his ambition was to get closer to the product and maintain his speaking and writing career.”

Franklin was the chief overseer of such faith-based blockbusters as Heaven Is for Real,  Not Easily Broken,  and The Pursuit of Happyness.  He also worked closely on the reboot of The Karate Kid.

The 36-year-old ordained minister is currently serving as a producer for Heaven Changes Everything,  the film adaptation for the PlayStation videogame, Gran Turismo  and The Masters of the Universe  film starring Steve Tisch, Jason Blumenthal and Todd Black.

He is also a motivational speaker and author of the self-help bestseller, Produced by Faith  and is married to television and film actress, Meagan Good.
