Last October, we reported that R&B singer Jill Scott was cast to play one of James Brown’s wives in the upcoming biopic, Get On Up.
Today, photos of Scott and her leading man Chadwick Boseman as Brown, were released courtesy of a USA Today exclusive. There are also first looks of Viola Davis as Brown’s mother Susie Brown, Octavia Spencer as Brown’s Aunt Honey and Dan Aykroyd as Brown’s manager Ben Bart.
Details about the film’s story were also revealed too. Apparently, the movie will begin with a 6-year-old Brown being abandoned by his mother and left to live with his aunt, who runs a brothel. The film will continue with his meteoric rise to superstardom and end with Brown’s 1993 comeback concert not with his death in 2006.
It is also being reported that Boseman will “break through the fourth wall,” a term used to describe the actor’s speaking directly to the camera and addressing the audience.
