Comedian and talk show host Steve Harvey held a press conference on Friday along with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to announce Atlanta’s hosting of the 12th Annual Ford Neighborhood Awards.

The signature award show recognizes the biggest and brightest leaders and organizations in local neighborhoods across the country. The weekend of events, which were previously held in Las Vegas, will run August 7-10 at the Phillips Arena with the actual award show taping on August 9.

“We’re going to be the center of action for lifting up individuals who are worthy of praise,”  Reed said. “We’re going to make sure that the Neighborhood Awards, also known as the Hoodie Awards, has the most successful experience it has ever had.”

Harvey, who is also the event’s co-creator, conceived the show idea during a red carpet event a few years ago.  “I said, ‘How cool would it be to have an award show, where we honor the businesses in our local community. The flip was I would have celebrity friends of mine to present the awards. There’s a lot of good things in the hood that don’t get talked about.”
