Despite several media outlets claiming that Jay Z and Justin Timberlake were canceling their Florida gig in August, the concert venue’s website and South Florida media are reporting otherwise.
According to the Sun Life Stadium, The Legends of Summer Stadium Tour starring Timberlake and Carter has not been cancelled nor has it been postponed. The website posted the following statement recently on behalf of the show promoters, Live Nation:
“The Legends of The Summer Stadium tour with Justin Timberlake and JAY Z will take place as planned at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL on Friday, August 16th.”
News about the two stars ditching their show began after their names appeared on a list of celebrities boycotting Florida made its way to the internet. According to the list, more than 23 singers including Madonna, Usher, The Rolling Stones, and Rihanna have all decided not to perform in Florida after the surprising non-guilty verdict of George Zimmerman. The news sparked outrage and a number of protests and rallies took place around the country.
Stevie Wonder was the first to speak out against Florida and the Stand Your Ground Law. The singer announced during his show last week in Canada that he refused to perform in the state or any place that supported the controversial law.
No word yet from Timberlake or Carter regarding their plans for the show. Ironically, the two just performed the song “Forever Young” in honor of Trayvon Martin during their NYC show last weekend. “This is for Trayvon, so light up your cell phones New York!,” JAY Z yelled, with Timberlake adding, “One more time for Trayvon New York!”
Carter was also spotted alongside his wife, Beyoncé at a Trayvon Martin rally in Harlem over the weekend as well. The two were photographed in several pics with Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton and the Rev. Al Sharpton and tweeted their support.
RC will keep you posted as more of this story continues to develop.
What are your thoughts about the Boycott? Should more artists join the list?
