NAACP Image Award winner Lance Gross has been tapped to play the lead for a yet-to-be-titled drama pilot for NBC.

According to Indie Wire, Gross will play Marcus Finely, an idealistic Secret Service agent who finds himself at the center of an international crisis on his first day of on the job as the President’s son’s protection, when the son, along with his schoolmates, are kidnapped. The project is described as an emotionally charged political action thriller set in Washington D.C.

This is Gross first time as a lead for a television series. He is best known for his role as Calvin Payne on Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.  He recently starred in the indie drama The Last Fall  which opened to rave reviews last October.

Look for Gross to appear in Tyler’s new romantic thriller, Temptation  opening in theaters on March 29.
