In the December issue of Vanity Fair magazine, there is the “60 Minutes/Vanity Fair Poll” (subtitled Lust For Life), which asks readers a series of random questions.  One of the questions were, “If you were directing a new film version of the New Testament, which actor would you cast to play Jesus?”

In response to that question the majority of readers surprisingly chose Denzel Washington!

The answers were as follows:

  • Denzel Washington (21%)
  • Daniel Day-Lewis (14%)
  • Al Pacino (13%)
  • Ryan Gosling (11%)
  • Woody Allen (10%)
  • Philip Seymour Hoffman (3%)
  • and finally, none of them (15%)

No one would have guessed that Denzel Washington would win the contest – certainly not one that Vanity Fair had anything to do with, given that its readership is predominantly Caucasian.  Washington, S&A suggests, is one of those non-white actors who has “transcended race.”

RC fans, are you surprised the people chose two-time Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington?

Last week, the FLOTUS told Mario Lopez of EXTRA she’d like Denzel (or Will Smith, she said Washington’s name first) to play President Obama in a movie!
