Octavia Spencer
In their nineteenth annual Women in Hollywood issue, ELLE presents the nine leading female dramatists of showbiz. One of those ladies happens to be Academy award-winning actress Octavia Spencer.
Spencer on standing up for herself: “Early on I had to stand up to a producer – I won’t say who, but he is famous, famous. He dressed me down in a crowded office. I told him right there in front of a hundred people, ‘You don’t know me well enough to use that tone’…And then I ran to the bathroom and cried like a baby. But he never addressed me that way again. And he is known as a yeller.” Tell ’em Minnie!
Octavia’s will be seen next in Smashed playing a character named Jenny. The film is about a married couple whose bond is built on a mutual love of alcohol gets their relationship put to the test when the wife decides to get sober. Smashed is slated for release October 12.
Spencer will also star in Fruitvale, Baggage Claim and several other films next year; stay tuned!
