BBC One announced earlier this year that the 3rd and last season of Luther, (yes, it’s coming to an end) had been ordered!  Luther is a British psychological crime drama television series about detective John Luther, a dedicated police officer and a genius.  For Luther, the job always comes first.  His dedication to the job is both a blessing and a curse to himself and those close to him.

The character of Luther is played by Idris Elba, who won the Golden Globe award for best actor in a miniseries at the 2012 ceremony, for his portrayal of the title character.

It is expected that the lead cast from the 2nd season will return to make 4 episodes each an hour long and this will air in either late 2012 or early 2013.

Neil Cross, the creator and writer of the series, said that “the hope is that they are able to make the leap to the big screen after season 3 ends.”  Last summer, Elba also expressed the same interest stating, “the ultimate ‘Luther’ story will unfold on the big screen.”  Click here on Indiewire.com to read more of  Neil Cross’ plans for Luther.
