Deadline is reporting that actor and musician Jaden Smith is teaming up with Jackie Chan for a follow up movie to the 2010 hit film, The Karate Kid.  Reportedly, Sony Pictures has recruited Breck Eisner to direct the upcoming sequel.

The Karate Kid  was a global success for Sony and the film’s young star, Jaden. It grossed $56 million dollars its opening weekend and ended with $343 million worldwide.  No word yet on whether Academy-nominated actress Taraji P. Henson will return as Jaden’s mother in the film.

The Karate Kid was a remake of the 1984 film about a handyman/martial arts master who agrees to teach a bullied boy karate and show him that there is more to the martial art than fighting. The film starred Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita and Elizabeth Shu.

RC will keep you posted as this continues to develop.
