UPDATE: Halle Berry + Lena Waithe to executive produce BET’s ‘Boomerang’ Series

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

CONGRATS to Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry and Emmy Award-winning writer and acclaimed actress Lena Waithe. The two of them are teaming up with BET for the new Boomerang series.

According to S&A, the project will not be a reboot as previously reported but a sequel to the iconic 1992 film that featured Berry along with Eddie Murphy, Robin Givens and Grace Jones.

The show will “follow the lives of Jacqueline Boyer’s (Givens) son and Marcus (Murphy) and Angela Graham’s (Berry) daughter as they attempt to step out of their parents’ shadows and make a legacy of their own.”

“This is less of a reboot and more of a continuation of the original story. There’s no point in trying to remake a classic,” she noted of the Reginald Hudlin directed film based on a story of commitment phobia by star Eddie Murphy. It can’t be done. So we want to create something fresh that speaks to a new generation. We hope people will come to the show with an open mind and ready to embrace the new world we’ve created!” said Waithe.

Waithe actually teased her involvement with the project over the weekend by posting the above image on social media with the caption, “You’re not getting serious on me are you?” It’s a line from the movie between Boyer and Gramham.

“I’m thrilled to team up with Lena on this project as she is without a doubt a leading voice of her generation and a trail blazer in her own right,” soon-to-be Bruiseddirector Berry said in a statement Monday. “I’m truly excited to be a part of bringing this iconic and beloved film to the small screen.”

No word yet on whether Givens or Murphy will make cameos in the project.

RC will keep you posted as this continues to develop.

SHE’S BACK!

Check out the new teaser trailer for “BOO 2! A Madea Halloween.” Lionsgate released this earlier today along with the film’s official poster and first look images.

In “BOO 2!,” Madea (Tyler Perry), Bam (Cassi Davis) and Hattie (Patrice Lovely) head to a haunted campground and must literally run for their lives when monsters, goblins and the bogeyman are unleashed. The sequel also reunites other original cast members including Diamond White, Brock O’Hurn, Yousef Erakat, Jc Caylen plus Chandra Currelley-Young.

“BOO” enjoyed major success last year and was number one at the box office two weekends in a row with a $74 million-dollar worldwide box office.

When I talked to Davis in January for #UPFRONT, she opened up about how much she enjoyed doing the first movie, so I know this is one is going to be even funnier.

“BOO 2! A Madea Halloween” opens in theaters October 20, 2017:

Watch Jessie T. Usher & Vivica A. Fox in ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’ trailer (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

The wait is finally over!

Check out the first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence. It’s the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Independence Day and features Survivor’s Remorse star Jessie T. Usher and original cast member Vivica  A. Fox.  20th Century Fox released the first trailer over the weekend.

We always knew they were coming back. After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

In Independence Day: Resurgence, Fox reprises her role as Jasmine Dubrow while Usher plays an older Dylan Hiller, the son of Jasmine and Captain Steve Hiller, played by Will Smith. In 2013, the film’s director Roland Emmerich, alluded to the fact that the sequel would focus on the ‘offspring’ taking over.

“It’s still some of the same characters, but also new younger characters; it’s a little bit like the sons take over […] The first one ends on a little success, but only enough to give the humans hope. And then in the second one they free themselves again [from the aliens],” said Emmerich in a statement.

Independence Day: Resurgence also reunites original stars Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum.  Check it out below:

FIRST LOOK at UP’s ‘Marry Us for Christmas ‘[PHOTOS]

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

UP has release FIRST LOOK photos from its upcoming original holiday romantic comedy, “Marry Us for Christmas.” It’s a sequel to last year’s “Marry Me for Christmas” and stars Malinda Williams, Karon Riley, Victoria Rowell, and Marques Houston as the Christmas couples. The film also reunites Rowell with her long-time “Young and the Restless” co-star Kristoff St. John.

It’s a year after Marci Jewel (Williams) and Blair Kirkland (Riley) declared their love for each other and decided to tie the knot. But as the big day approaches, Marci is so consumed with work that she’s had no time to plan her wedding. To make matters worse, she may have to team up with former assistant/fake fiancé Adam to win a project she’s been vying for – a little tidbit Marci has held back from Blair. But Blair, as it turns out, has a secret of his own. Thanks to years of doing pro bono work for financially-strapped clients, he quickly is running out of cash and might have to accept an offer to work for his longtime nemesis, Marci’s manipulative cousin Preston (Carl Payne). Meanwhile, Marci’s mother Stephanie Chandler Jewel (Rowell) is making some rather bold moves of her own with her sexy salsa teacher, Antonio Simpson (Houston), who is more than a little smitten with her — and about 20 years her junior. Will there be a wedding for Christmas? Better yet – whose wedding will it be? Naturally, the festivities wouldn’t be complete without family, including Marci’s Uncle Donald (GregAlan Williams), Aunt Myra (DeEtta West), Aunt Elizabeth (Chrystale Wilson), Charlene (Dawn Halfkenny) and Antonio’s uncle Lawrence Simpson (St. John).

A sequel to ‘THE GOONIES’ may be on the way?

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

One of my favorite childhood movies, The Goonies, may be getting a sequel. According to TMZ, the film’s director Richard Donner says that a follow up may be in the works. Apparently, he was caught signing autographs in Hollywood when TMZ asked him about the 1986 cult classic film.

“If you call ‘Goonies’ a comic book. We’re doing a sequel.”

For those of you who’ve never had the pleasure of watching this film, The Goonies  is about a group of kids who set out on an adventure in search of pirate treasure that could save their homes from foreclosure.  The film stars Sean Austin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Jonathan Ke Quan and a host of others.

It is not known whether the original cast will reprise their roles or make cameo appearances. Let’s keep your fingers crossed!

Tyra Banks to star in sequel to ‘Life Size’

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Supermodel and former talk show host, Tyra Banks has announced that she is returning to the big screen for a follow up to her 2000 Disney made-for-TV-movie,  Life-Size.

Banks confirmed the news in a recent interview with Digital Spy saying:  “I have a meeting today to go over the script! I swear! I don’t think it’ll be out until probably 2015, but I’m guessing – it could be late 2014 or 2015. But it will be back – Life-Size will be back, better than ever […] I can’t [tell you anything] unfortunately… I’m under contract with Disney and I can’t talk about it at all, except that it’s coming. But it will be very different, very different. Very modern – a modern take.”

The original film starred a very young Lindsay Lohan as a widower’s daughter who accidentally brings to life her Barbie-like doll, Eve (Banks) while trying to cast a spell to resurrect her mother.

Rumors of a sequel have been circulating since 2012. However, it wasn’t until Banks announced the news this week that things were totally confirmed.  It’s also not clear if Lohan will reprise her role.

Former Disney star Miley Cyrus was also excited about the news and tweeted the following message:

‘The Best Man Holiday’ sequel is already in the works?

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

If this weekend’s box office numbers were any indication that errbody  wanted to see The Best Man Holiday,  then the film’s director Malcolm Lee shouldn’t have any problems selling tickets for another sequel.

THR is confirming that Lee will indeed return with a third installment to the Best Man  franchise (the ending kind of sort of set us up for that) and is set to write, direct and produce the film with Sean Daniel.  The Best Man Holiday  opened very strong this weekend, bringing in $30.1 million dollars and grabbing the no. 2 position behind Thor: The Dark World.

The L.A. Times is also reporting that the film received a coveted average grade of A+ from moviegoers, according to market research firm CinemaScore. This superior grading places the movie in an elite club of films that have enjoyed long and fruitful box office runs, including Argo, 42, The Help, The King’s Speech, The Blind Side  and Titanic.

Congrats once again to Malcolm Lee and The Best Man Holiday  cast and crew.  RC will definitely keep you posted on this story as it continues to develop.

Would you go and see The Best Man 3 ?
