Indie Wire is reporting that Champion boxers Andre Ward and Tony Bellew are in negotiations to join Ryan Coogler’s upcoming Rocky spin-off, CREED.
As previously reported, CREED features Fruitvale Station actor Michael B. Jordan as the grandson of boxing legend, Apollo Creed. Jordan’s character is raised in an upper-crust home thanks to the ring riches earned by his grandfather, the young man doesn’t have to box and his family doesn’t want him to. Yet, he has the natural instinct and gifts and potential that made his grandfather the heavyweight champion until Rocky Balboa took his crown in 1979′s Rocky II. Creed’s grandson needs a mentor and turns to Balboa, who is out of boxing completely and not eager to return. Sylvester Stallone will reprise his Rocky Balboa as a retired fighter-turned-trainer.
British Boxing Champion, Tony Bellew (pictured on the right) is currently in talks to play “Pretty Ricky Porter,” the archenemy to Jordan’s character while Champion Boxer, Andre Ward’s role is still up in the air. This will be the seventh installment in the Rocky series.
CREED has a January start date and will shoot in Las Vegas and Philadelphia.
Stay tuned…
