David and Tamela Mann present the ‘Us Against The World Tour’ (VIDEO)

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Gospel Music Power couple David and Tamela Mann are hitting the road this fall in the second installment of their critically-acclaimed, “Us Against The World: Mann Family Tour.” The Mann’s family national concert tour kicked off on Oct. 11 and will make stops in 20 cities, ending in Cincinnati, OH Nov. 11.

Immediately following the tour, David and Tamela will release their new memoir, Us Against the World: Our Secrets to Love, Marriage, and Family available November 13, 2018. In their new memoir, the couple candidly shares an inspiring, funny, and up-close look at their lives while offering hope and practical advice for building a strong relationship, marriage and family.

Ever since the NAACP Image Award winners David and Grammy® Award winner Tamela Mann were key members of Kirk Franklin’s Platinum selling group, ‘The Family,’ fans have been clamoring for the duo to release a joint album. That time has finally come. David and Tamela plan to release, Us Against The World: The Love Project, a soulful 10-song musical collaboration (6 out of the 10 tracks are duets) on November 9. The album is being released in conjunction with the release of their new book.

In addition to the tour, David and Tamela are executive producing and starring in the TV One original film, Merry Wish-mas, premiering on December 2. Directed by award-winning actress, director and producer Terri J. Vaughn, this feel-good romantic comedy revolves around Kenni, who has avoided the annual holiday trip to her hometown of Columbia, South Carolina for years. While she is hoping for the best, as with any family, there are unresolved issues lingering that could make the holiday not so bright. The movie also stars Kim Fields, Towanda Braxton and rapper Yung Joc.

Terri J. Vaughn to appear on Fox’s ‘REL’ [PHOTOS]

Written by | Ray Cornelius

Congratulations to actress, producer and filmmaker Terri J. Vaughn. The former Steve Harvey Show star is headed back to primetime in a guest role on Fox’s newest comedy REL.

Vaughn posted photos of herself holding a REL script on Instagram earlier today with the following caption:

“The gates have been opened!! A few months ago I saw @comedianlilrel and told him we should work together. He agreed and here I am. Back in my Element! THANK YOU”

According to the script Vaughn will be playing “Tia.”

REL is based on the life of Lil Rel Howery and features him as a loving husband and father living on the West Side of Chicago, who finds out his wife is having an affair with his barber. With the barbershop being one of the epicenters of neighborhood gossip, Rel finds his embarrassing business is known by everyone, including the Pastor (also played by Howery), before Rel can even process the emotions himself.

Offering Rel support is his best friend, Brittany (Jess “Hilarious” Moore), and his recently out-of-jail younger brother, Nat (Jordan L. Jones), as well as Rel‘s prideful Dad (Sinbad), who perhaps has taken the barber news even harder than Rel.

Check out a preview of REL below:

‘MARLON’ stars host Season 2 Viewing Party during ABFF [PHOTOS]

Written by | Ray Cornelius

I had the distinct pleasure of attending a private screening of the season 2 premiere of NBC’s Marlon this past Thursday evening with the show’s stars—Essence Atkins, Bresha Webb and Diallo Riddle. The event took place during the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) and was held at the luxurious 1 Hotel South Beach in Miami, FL.

Marlon follows Marlon Wayans as an attentive — somewhat juvenile — single father who is co-parenting his two young children with his mature and very put-together ex-wife, Ashley, played by Atkins. While his fatherly advice may often be misguided, and he sometimes lets his own outsized personality and unpredictable Internet superstardom get in his way, for Marlon, family always comes first.

The cast were tweeting and interacting with fans all throughout the night and was trending heavily on all social media platforms. A number of their celebrity friends were also in attendance including actresses Terri J. Vaughn and Kym Whitley, media personality Jawn Murray, iconic model and actor Tyson Beckford, Superfly and Last O.G. star Allen Maldonado and many more NBC executives and media influencers.

TV One Presents ‘Merry Wish-mas’ featuring David & Tamela Mann

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Production is currently underway in Atlanta, GA for TV One’s new original holiday film Merry Wish-mas starring one of my favorite duos—David and Tamela Mann. The project is directed by award-winning actress and Greenleaf star Terri J. Vaughn.

Tamela stars as Keneisha ‘Kenni’ Wright, a single and successful Atlanta businesswoman who hasn’t returned home for the holidays in years. David plays Jessie Jenkins, Kenni’s old high school friend. The two reunite at Jessie’s fledgling wellness facility, the Beverly Living Center, where Kenni is reminded of the transformational power of love, hope and faith, amplified by the spirit of the holidays.

Merry Wish-mas also features Kim Fields as Celine, a regular at the center who loves seeing the new smile Kenni puts on Jessie’s face, but is protective about his feelings. Towanda Braxton stars as Natalie, the persistent local woman who has a crush on Jessie. Elizabeth Omilami appears as Kenni’s matchmaker mom Regina, while Chrystale Wilson steps into the role of Kenni’s sister and food truck entrepreneur Dionne, adding a high dose of sibling rivalry. Rap artist and reality star Yung Joc also makes a cameo appearance.

Terri J. Vaughn + Cas Siger-Beedles

“Heartwarming stories like Merry Wish-Mas that bring families together and make us laugh are as much a part of the season as Christmas trees and Santa himself,” said Vaughn, who makes her TV One original film directorial debut. “And this movie, touching upon family conflicts, singlehood and love, money woes, and wishing for Christmas miracles, is set to become a highlight of the coming holidays.”

Merry Wish-mas is written by Cas Sigers-Beedles and is executive produced for TV One by Roger Bobb and Angi Bones of Bobbcat Films. It is also executive produced by Vaughn and Siger-Beedles for Nina Holiday Entertainment and David and Tamela Mann.

Stay tuned…

Terri J. Vaughn + Cas Sigers-Beedles host ‘When Love Kills’ Atlanta Viewing Party [PHOTOS]

Written by | Ray Cornelius

I had the pleasure of attending a private viewing party for TV One’s original movie, “When Love Kills” Monday night at Atlanta’s League Tavern (formerly T.I.‘s Scales 925 restaurant). The event was hosted by the film’s writer and executive producer Cas Sigers-Beedles along with her Nina Holiday Entertainment business partner and actress Terri J. Vaughn.

“When Love Kills” tells the tragic story of Falicia Blakely (Niatia “Lil’ Mama” Kirkland), a teen mom turned exotic dancer who attracted the attention of a local pimp and predator named Big Dino (Lance Gross). His empty promises of a life together turned Falicia into a pawn in his dangerous games and she was forced to prove her love for him at the expense of innocent lives. The project was directed by “Empire” actress Tasha Smith and also starred Tami Roman, Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Big Freedia, Tiffany Black and Lil’ Zane.

It took Sigers-Beedles over a decade to bring this story to light. However, seeing the actors on the set last November made her realize it was worth the wait.  “When I was on set and saw Lil’ Mama’s magic and Tasha’s magic and Lance’s magic, I realized I was just 10 years ahead! This truly was Tasha’s movie to make and it was Niatia’s role to play. Everything is always in its timing and I am just so happy to tell this story.”

Siger-Beedles first became acquainted with Blakely’s tragic story through a Creative Loafing article. So she reached out to Blakely’s attorney and talked to her about the case and was taken aback at how much she loved this man and how she didn’t see fault in him. She later shared the story with Vaughn and the two eventually took it to TV One.

Blakely was a teenager when her life was transformed by Big Dino and is still serving time for the murders she committed. She is now in her 30s and mentors young girls through the prison system.

Atlanta notables in attendance included “Greenleaf” actors Lamman Rucker and T.C. Carson, singer-songwriter B. Slade, actresses Brittany Inge and Naomi Lavette, British actor Zimzon Lelo, Tiphanie Watson from the Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Film and Entertainment +  book author and motivational speaker Lakara Foster.
