Star Jones’ scripted series ‘Satan’s Sisters’ is coming to VH1

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Congrats to Star Jones!  The media maven’s book “Satan’s Sister” will be the focus of a new scripted series for VH1 in 2017.

According the press release, the one-hour program is centered on five female co-hosts of a popular daily TV talk show, ‘The Lunch Hour,’ and the fireworks that ensue each weekday when they discuss life, love, family, politics, and gossip. These five women, with very different points of view, are best friends and sisters…while they’re on TV. But behind the scenes, they are “Satan’s Sisters” — a backstage world filled with power struggles, personal demons, diva fits, love affairs, man troubles, cat fights…and cocktails.

“Satan’s Sisters” will be executive produced by Jones along with Josh Berman, Madison Jones, Susan Levison and Motown legend Suzanne DePasse.

satans-sisters-book-coverI’m so excited that ‘Satan’s Sisters,’ which was such a fun book to write, is finally coming to the small screen,” said Star Jones. “I would be lying if I said that ‘Satan’s Sisters’ wasn’t influenced by the soap opera life of daytime TV but it is a work of fiction. All the characters are inspired, in parts, by someone I’ve worked with, worked for, interviewed, was interviewed by and/or even prosecuted.”

“Daytime TV now comments on and creates pop culture,” said Chris McCarthy, General Manager, VH1. “Star Jones’ book is the perfect project for VH1 and our partners to bring to life.”

In 2012, Jones expressed on a “Wendy Williams Show” that she would love Diana Ross or Diahann Carroll to play the role of ‘Maxine Robinson’ on the show. RC will  keep you posted as this continues to develop.

Star Jones set to co-host a new talk show

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Star Jones is headed back to daytime television as one of five co-hosts for a new talk show produced and distributed by Debmar-Mercury. Sounds familiar huh?

According to THP, the attorney and television personality is ecstatic about the new legal-themed show and told Fishbowl NY that the opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I can’t say much, but I can tell you exclusively I shot the pilot on Sunday and its multi-host – the opportunity came to me when I was in the middle of a million things — and I’m more excited about this than I’ve been in long time,” Jones said. “It’s right in my wheel house.”

Jones also claims that the days of single host formatted shows are over.

“I don’t think the single-host format will be successful any longer. The time for those shows has passed,” she also said. “I think people want to tune in and see a group of people with some real diversity and that are relatable.”

This is Jones’ second attempt at the multi-host format. She spent 9 years of her career as the co-host of ABC’s The View  and left that show in 2006. Since that time she has appeared as a guest legal analyst on such shows as The Insider  and Dr. Phil.  She was also a contestant on fourth installment of Celebrity Apprentice.

RC will keep you posted as more information about this show continues to develop.

Wendy Williams to produce a film version of Star Jones’ Satan’s Sisters…

Posted by | Ray Cornelius

Talk –show host Wendy Williams is stepping out of the hosting seat and into the producer’s chair to present Star Jones’ Satan Sisters: The Movie.

According to TV Buzz, Williams is teaming up with former Motown television, film and music producer Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones to create television and movies under the auspices of “Wendy Williams Presents.” The first film to be made in this new partnership is Jones’ novel about a panel of talk show hosts.  Williams said this of her new deal with de Passe:

“de Passe Jones Entertainment has a proven track record of success as it pertains to television movies and mini-series,” Williams said in a release. “This partnership makes great sense to Wendy Williams Productions and our entry into the world of filmed entertainment. The credentials of Suzanne de Passe and Madison Jones speak for themselves. We are looking forward to a long and fruitful relationship with de Passe Jones Entertainment and adding to their stellar and lengthy string of highly successful films.”

A few months back Jones mentioned on Williams’ daytime talk-show her desire to turn the novel into a movie and even hinted at who she would like to see cast in roles. If Jones has her way, she would also like to see the movie turned in a television series. No word yet on when production starts.

Kudos to the “Queen of All Media” for taking her brand and celebrity to the next level!

What do you think about Wendy Williams producing a film?

Satan’s Sisters…a movie?

Star Jones revealed on the Wendy Williams Show who she’d like to star in the television movie of her novel, Satan’s Sisters.

VH1 bought the rights to Satan’s Sisters, the story of The Lunch Club–a long-running, popular ladies’ talk show.  The show’s famous red couch is ruled by its esteemed matriarch, Maxine Robinson, the first African-American to become a network news anchor.  Star Jones expressed her desire to have either Diahann Carroll or Diana Ross  play the role of Maxine Robinson.
