Check out photos and excerpts from the interview below:

On being a hip-hop sex symbol…

“The most beautiful thing about this project is it’s not ahead of its time, it’s not a throwback album. It feels like today,” he says. “I feel like a new artist. There are people out there that don’t know my music, but they know me from acting. Some don’t know me at all.”

On speaking from the heart…

“I’m hardcore which to me is coming from the heart. Putting your heart on that paper and being true.”

On his future relationship…

“If I’m in it as much as I was with Serena, as much as I loved her…it takes time to heal and find that peace to be able to move on.”

Serena Williams graces the July 2013 cover of ESSENCE!

Posted by | Cyrena Rose

It’s important to look in the mirror and say I love myself.” – Serena Williams

Tennis phenom, Serena Williams covers the July 2013 ‘Body Issue’ of Essence Magazine.

The six-time No. 1 ranked singles tennis star looks amazing in a blue ombré Carmen Marc Valvo swimsuit and Ben-Amun hoop earrings.

I feel lighter, I feel healthier, and even though I’m 31 — which really isn’t old, but for an athlete, particularly a tennis player, it’s old — I promise you, my body has never felt better,” she says in the magazine. “Considering how much I’ve played and how much I’ve done, I feel fine. I’m strong …

Williams also notes her body gets a lot of attention, including her backside…

It can be a bit weird,” she admits. “Before it was, ‘Serena has a big butt,’ and that was all. Now there are way more people who feel comfortable with themselves and they’re saying, ‘I’m a woman, and this is what I look like.’ I always say, ‘We’re popular now! We’re finally in style!’

Venus and Serena Williams cover the latest issue of The New York Times Magazine.

The Olympic-winning sisters stand shoulder to shoulder as they show off their chiseled bodies and beauty as African American women.

The article chronicles their meteoric rise to fame as two of the world’s most recognizable faces in tennis plus what each sister feels are her career highs and lows.  Their mother, Oracene Williams says it best when talking about her daughters’ success.

“I reflected on the fact that in the United States, you don’t have many players that are doing well,” Oracene Price told the Times. And then you have these two old, black girls, up in age now, and they’re still holding up America. That to me was remarkable.”

More good news from across the pond!

Today, tennis diva Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in the women’s final, becoming the second woman to complete a career Golden Slam.

Not since Steffi Graf’s 1988 victory, has any other female tennis star won all four Grand Slams and the Olympic gold medal.

According to Newsone, The victory completed a remarkable run of domination by the No. 4-seeded Williams, who lost only 17 games in six matches en route to her first singles gold medal. She went 13-0 this summer at the All England Club, where she won her fifth Wimbledon title a month ago.

Williams can now add this gold medal to her 14 Grand Slam single championships, the most of any active woman.
