Talk-show diva Wendy Williams will be flexing her acting muscles this summer in the Tony-winning revival of Chicago. The “tell it like it is” radio and TV personality announced Monday that she will take on the role of Matron “Mama” Morton starting June 25 through August 11. This should be an interesting spin to the character that was so famously portrayed by Queen Latifah in the 2002 film adaptation. I do believe this is Wendy’s first time on the Great White Way, so were excited to see what she is going to do. Kudos Wendy!
In other news, BET has announced that comedian Chris Tucker will host this year’s BET Awards.
“We cannot wait for Chris to set fire to the BET Awards stage with his unique brand of mayhem,” said Stephen Hill, President of Music Programming and Specials. “We’ve been chasing him for years and we couldn’t be happier that he is hosting the show in this special year: the year we embark on the three-day-long BET Experience.”
Tucker joins an elite list of comedians who have hosted the show including Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer, Damon Wayans, Monique, D.L Hughley, Jamie Foxx, and Kevin Hart. This year’s three-day-long BET Experience will also feature a concert by Beyoncé and performances from Kendrick Lamar, Miguel, The Jacksons and R. Kelly. The BET Awards will air on June 30 at 8 p.m. EST.
Thank you BET, Hip Hollywood and Boombox
