Congratulations goes to U.S. Olympic star Gabrielle Douglas who made history today becoming the first African-American to win all around Olympic gold.
She is the fourth U.S. gymnast to win the coveted all-around title since Mary Lou Retton, Carly Patterson and Nastia Luikin. She is also the first American to win the team gold and the all-around gold in the same Olympics.
Gabby finished with 62.232 points followed by Russians Victoria Komova with 61.973 points and Aliya Mustafina with 59.566 points.
Here is what the pint-size winner had to say about her historic win:
“Someone mentioned that I was the first black American (to win the all-around gold), and I said, ‘Oh yeah, I forgot about that!’ I feel so honored. I hope that I inspire people. I want to inspire people. My mother said you can inspire a nation.”
