CONGRATULATIONS goes out to my friend and Broadway actor, Ken Robinson. He has been selected to star in the upcoming revival of The Color Purple.
The news was announced earlier today by the show’s producers Scott Sanders, Roy Furman, Oprah Winfrey, David Babani and Tom Siracusa.
Robinson will share the stage with previously announced actors Jennifer Hudson, Danielle Brooks, Cynthia Erivo, Isaiah Johnson, Joaquin Kalukango and Kyle Scatliffe.
I had the pleasure of working with Robinson back in 2003 in an Atlanta theatrical production of The Wiz. He is dynamic actor and one helluva singer. Robinson eventually left Atlanta to attend Yale’s School of Drama. He now resides in New York City with his actress wife, Christina Acosta Robinson and has appeared in such Broadways shows as Memphis and Baby It’s You! I am so proud of Ken and can’t wait to see him on stage when previews begin next month, November 10.
Other actors cast in the show include: Phoenix Best, Dwayne Clark, Lawrence Clayton, Carrie Compere, Patrice Covington, Adrianna Hicks, Bre Jackson, Grasan Kingsberry, Kevyn Morrow, Antoine L. Smith, Carla R. Stewart, Akron Watson and Rema Webb.
The Color Purple will officially open on December 10. Click here to purchase your tickets!
