Here’s the latest news from the Great White Way…

Bay Street Theater and Dreamworks are teaming up for a musical adaptation of the Disney film, The Prince of Egypt. The show will feature the music and lyrics of Stephen Schwartz and a book by Philip LaZebnik. The Prince of Egypt  tells the story of the classic tale of Moses’ life — from his beginnings as an Egyptian prince to discovering his God-given task of guiding the enslaved children of Israel to the promised land.  Reportedly, there will be a premiere concert reading on July 11 featuring Tony-nominated actor and “Scandal” star, Norm Lewis and Drama Desk nominee, Aaron Lazar. The reading is part of the Bay Street’s 24th Annual Summer Gala. “The Prince of Egypt” features the beloved tune, “When You Believe” performed by Mariah Carey and the late Whitney Houston. NBC’s The Wiz Live  has added some star power to its creative team. Tony winner Stephen Oremus will serve as the show’s music director, orchestrator and co-producer. Also added is music producer Harvey Mason Jr., who has worked on such film as Dreamgirls  and the newly released Pitch Perfect 2. These two join previously announced dance choreographer, Fatima Robinson. Stephanie Mills, the show’s original Dorothy, will play Aunt Em. The show is directed by Kenny Leon and will debut on Dec. 3. Fans of Grammy-winning singer and reality-star Brandy Norwood are in luck! The actress announced via social media yesterday that she is extending her run in the famed musical, Chicago. The multi-talented star’s original run was through June 21. She will continue playing the lead role of Roxie Hart until August 2. I guess her recent visit from Aretha Franklin and Bishop T.D. Jakes was an indication of better days ahead! CONGRATS B ROCKA! [FACEBOOK/BRANDY]
