OWN has released new footage from Oprah’s Next Chapter episode featuring a candid conversation with African-American actresses: Viola Davis, Gabrielle Union, Phylicia Rashad and Alfre Woodard. The one-hour special airs on Sunday, June 23 at 9 p.m. EST followed by the world television premiere of the documentary, Dark Girls at 10 p.m..
From the looks of the videos below, these ladies are not holding back when addressing the challenges they face as Black actresses in Hollywood. From the scarcity of “quality” roles to on going light-skinned versus dark-skinned debate, these women are clearly unapologetic in their opinions and we absolutely LOVE IT!
Here are two snippets of Davis referring to Black actresses as being in “crisis mode” when it comes to acting roles and Alfre Woodard lamenting about the stiff competition amongst her other African–American peers.
