BET is reporting that singer-songwriter and super producer The Dream has been appointed as the new executive vice president of A&R at Def Jam Records.
Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO of Universal Republic and Island Def Jam Motown calls The Dream a “gifted” artist who stands out amongst his musical peers.
“The-Dream is a gifted songwriter and producer who writes from a unique cultural point of view. This rare ability sets him apart from all other writers and producers out there.”
As executive VP of A&R, The Dream will oversee the label’s current roster as well as recruit new talent. He will also produce new music for Def Jam artists and build upon his own Radio Killa Records.
Dream, who has worked with such heavy weights as Beyoncé, Kane West, Mariah Carey and Rihanna, is elated at the opportunity and plans to ‘bring the power of belief in the artist back to the forefront.’
