Grammy-winning singer and rising actress Mary J. Blige will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this coming Thursday, January 11.
According to the official press release, Blige will be honored with the 2,626th star and her ceremony will take place at 11:30 a.m. PST on 6201 Hollywood Boulevard in front of Eastown. Sean “Diddy” Combs will be there to help emcee and unveil the star along with Hollywood Chamber President and CEO Leron Gubler.
“Mary J. Blige is one of the most popular singers of our generation. Fans will be thrilled to see her star on the Boulevard as her career milestones are celebrated on this very famous sidewalk,” stated Ana Martinez, Producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies.
Mary J. Blige is a multi-platinum selling artist with nine Grammy® Awards. She is one of the pioneers of the 90s “hip hop/soul” sound and has sold more than 50 million records worldwide. She is an icon and arguably one of the most recognizable singers in the music business.
2018 is already shaping up to be a big year for her professionally as she is up for a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and Critic’s Choice Award for her work in Dee Rees‘ Mudbound. She is a nominee in the “Best Supporting Actress” category.
I got a chance to meet Mary back in 2009 when she teamed up with Outkast star Big Boi as part of the Bringing Hope Home Tour – a foreclosing prevention program for homeowners here in Atlanta. She was so personable and very kind. At the time she was prepping to star as Nina Simone in a biopic and we talked about her new found passion for acting and Simone’s legendary music catalogue. Blige is very deserving of this star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
