Congratulations goes out to Regina King, RuPaul and Thandie Newton. All three of them won Emmy Awards during last night’s broadcast on NBC.
King won the “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie” award for her role in Netflix’s Seven Seconds. RuPaul’s popular VH1/Logo series RuPaul’s Drag Race won for “Outstanding Reality Competition Series” and “Outstanding Host for Reality Series.” Newton picked up the “Outstanding Supporting Actress Drama Series” award for her role in HBO’s Westworld.
Other winners included Darren Criss for “Best Actor in a Limited Series or Movie” for his role as Andrew Cunanan in the Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Henry Winkler for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” for Barry, Claire Foy for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series” for The Crown and Peter Dinklage for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” for Game of Thrones.
Additional winners included Tiffany Haddish for “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series” as the first African American comedienne to host Saturday Night Live and previously announced winners John Legend for producing Jesus Christ Superstar Live and Kat Williams for “Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” for Donald Glover‘s FX series Atlanta.
Two of the evening’s biggest highlights included a rare appearance from legendary actress and last living Golden Girls star Betty White as well as the surprise engagement announcement from director Glenn Weiss to his girlfriend Jan. He was literally in the middle of his acceptance speech for “Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special” when he popped the big question. Watch it now!
