Universal Pictures has released an official trailer and a few new images for Gerard McMurray‘s The First Purge. It arrives in theaters on July 4.
To push the crime rate below one percent for the rest of the year, the New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) test a sociological theory that vents aggression for one night in one isolated community. But when the violence of oppressors meets the rage of the marginalized, the contagion will explode from the trial-city borders and spread across the nation.
The First Purge features Y’Lan Noel, Lex Scott Davis, Joivan Wade, Luna Lauren Velez and Marisa Tomei. It is written by James DeMonaco and executive produced by Jason Blum, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, Brad Fuller and Sébastien K. Lemercier.
McMurray was reportedly handpicked by DeMonaco to direct this installation in The Purge series and is best known for his work as a producer on Fruitvale Station and Burning Sands.
