Oscar nominated actress Taraji P. Henson is teaming up with Oscar nominated director John Singleton for a biopic about Emmett Till.

According to VULTURE, Henson will portray Emmett’s mother, Mamie Till-Mobley with the story focusing on the racially motivated torture and murder of him in 1955. Till was targeted because he allegedly offended a White woman in her family grocery store in Mississippi. Mobley held Emmett’s funeral in Chicago where she insisted on a public viewing with an open casket.

The untiled project is being produced through Henson’s company, TPH Productions.

Up next for the “Empire” star is “Best of Enemies,” “Acrimony” and “What Men Want.”
