“Underground” series creator and award-winner Misha Green is teaming up with Warner Bros. for a remake of the 1973 Blaxploitation classic, “Cleopatra Jones.”
According to DEADLINE, Green will write and produce a new version of the film which originally starred the late Tamara Dobson as the stylish, kick ass undercover agent—Cleopatra Jones.
Cleopatra Jones is best described as a female version of ‘James Bond’ who worked as a supermodel to cover and excuse her travel to exotic places. In the original movie, Jones goes toe-to-toe with drug kingpin, ‘Mommy’ (Shelley Winter) and must stop her drugs from infiltrating the inner-city.
This new project is coming out at a time when Blaxploitation characters are seeing a revival of sorts. “Survivor’s Remorse “star Jessie T. Usher is the lead for a new “Shaft” movie and versatile actress Meagan Good will play Pam Grier‘s alter-ego “Foxy Brown” in a new HULU series.
RC will keep you posted as this project continue to develop. I can’t wait to see who is cast for the lead. I am also as equally as excited about all of the fashion and music for the film. #WooHoo
