Expert skin therapist Jewel Young of Atlanta’s FLESH Skin Studio kicked-off her “Vegan Vibes Dinner Series” over the weekend and yours truly, RC was there to capture the moment—bite per bite. The intimate dinner took place at her eclectic live-work space in West Midtown and included a variety of tasty treats all made without meat or animal products.

“Vegan Vibes” is a monthly food and educational series that mixes live cooking demonstrations with fine dining. It’s also an opportunity for attendees to “eat, watch and learn” more about veganism and better food choices. For Young, healthy skin begins with what we put in our bodies.

“A lot of my clients have skin issues that derive from their diets and dairy is one of the main culprits of acne,” said Young. “I realized that a lot of them really don’t know how to eat or what to eat and are not inspired to eat vegan because they think it may be boring. So, this monthly series is a way to encourage them to ‘think outside of the box’ and expand their vegan palate.”

The inaugural dinner featured plant-based personal chef, Guelila Fornetti, who prepared an array of dishes from her Italian and Ethiopian background including a vegan Ethiopian lentil soup and a vegan lasagna with mushrooms and tomatoes. She also prepared a very delicious chocolate pudding that was made by using avocados.

Young has been an esthetician for over 12 years and worked in Ohio and Florida before settling in Georgia. Some of her celebrity clients include R&B songstress Tamar Braxton, ANTM winner and actress Eva Marcille and NBA icon Grant Hill.
