Former Destiny’s Child singer and “Here We Go Again” actress LeToya Luckett will play the lead in a new film about Grammy winning-singer-songwriter and AIDS activist Dionne Warwick. The project is simply titled “Dionne.”
According to S&A, the film will spotlight Warwick’s career from 1962 to 1968 and will feature veteran actress Olympia Dukakis as Hollywood screen legend and Warwick’s mentor, Marlene Dietrich and Danny Glover as Warwick’s father, Mansel Warwick.
“She is perfect and she has exactly the right look” said Warwick during her announcement at Cannes. “She will bring out what is needed for this part.”
Reportedly, “Dionne” is based on Warwick’s 2010 autobiography, My Life As I See It and will begin production later on this year. It is also being said that Warwick is reaching out to veteran actor Mario Van Peebles to direct and that Luckett will be singing all of the songs in the film.
Warwick celebrated her 75 birthday in December and 46 years in the entertainment industry.
RC will keep you posted as this project continues to develop!
