Funk Fest, a production of Variety Entertainment, announced a partnership with non-profit organization Lifting As We Climb (LAWC), to award $50,000 in scholarships to deserving students, with support from Pepsi in all markets.  Scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to two students in each of the cities that Funk Fest will tour this season.

“This is a special partnership for us and we are honored to work with Lifting As We Climb to pay it forward to the next generation” said Leo Bennett, CEO and Founder of Variety Entertainment. “We are committed to providing access and opportunities that will benefit our youth in the communities we serve”.

Charlotte-based non-profit Lifting As We Climb offers health services and education resources to disadvantaged youth. LAWC provides scholarships directly to students, and has also supported organizations like A Child’s Place, The Johnson C. Smith Alumni Foundation and the Carolina Medical Center with monetary and in-kind donations.

Students can learn more about the scholarship, including eligibility requirements and the selection process, by visiting www.funkfestconcerts.com.

A selected scholarship committee will choose two recipients per tour city who will be featured in media interviews and special recognition opportunities at the concerts.

In addition to the scholarship, another 40 students will be given the opportunity to experience a “career immersion” by shadowing an executive team member of the Funk Fest.  These positions will cover public relations, marketing, productions and operations.  Students will learn what it takes to entertain over 100,000 music lovers successfully.

The Funk Fest Presented by Pepsi will kick off this year’s festival tour in Orlando, FL on April 18.  Additional festival cities include: Birmingham, AL May 2; Jacksonville, FL May 8th and 9th; Atlanta, GA May 15th and 16th; Mobile, AL June 6th; and Columbia, SC June 20th.  For more information about Funk Fest and the Pepsi/Lifting As We Climb scholarship, visit www.funkfestconcerts.com.
