Marsha Ambrosius has no problem telling fans how it T-I-IS when it comes to her heart and the past relationships that have broken it. I guess that is why the two-time Grammy nominated singer was able to sell out two nights this week at Atlanta’s Center Stage. Yes, the reigning queen of British soul brought her current Friends & Lovers Tour to the Capital of the South with a performance of royal proportion. The show was presented by The Muddy Water Group.

From the time she appeared on stage in her head-to-toe all black ensemble with hat and around-da-way-girl braids, Ambrosius had the mostly female audience on their feet and eating out of the palms of her hands. The more she swayed her hips and threw her knee length tresses, the more they moaned for their idol. Ambrosius also has an incredible way of connecting with her audience through storytelling and “girl talk” that is reminiscent of R&B legends such as Millie Jackson and Betty Wright.

For most of the show, she focused on the new album performing such hits as “69” with the “Kiss and Fuck interlude” and “Night Time.” She also reached back into the Floetry vault and pulled out fan favorites “Butterflies” and “Say Yes.” However, her rendition of Sade’s “Stronger than Pride” was the highlight of the evening and featured more of her vocal range than the recorded version with Dr. Dre. It was also more in line with the original tune and showed us why she remains a fixture on the Billboard charts.
Timothy Bloom opened the show
Joining her on the Atlanta leg of the tour was R&B crooner and VH1’s You Oughta Know artist, Timothy Bloom. He opened the show with an acoustic set of his hits including a show stopping duet “Til The End of Time’ with Atlanta singer, Ahki. Bloom also performed his newly released single “Stand in the Way of our Love” whose video dropped this earlier week.
