It’s Official!

Mike Epps has been cast to play comedy legend, Richard Pryor in the upcoming Lee Daniels’ directed biopic.  The big news was announced over the weekend after Oprah Winfrey posted a photo of her along with Epps and Daniels after his first read: “@theoriginalbigdaddy , @eppsie , and me just finished a great 1st read session. #RichardPryorMovie.”

The Butler  director later posted the above photo of the trio along with the following caption, “Get ready y’all- #MikeEpps as #RichardPryor.”

The news comes on the heels of Drumline  actor Nick Cannon hinting that he might be playing the iconic entertainer in the film. Cannon even confessed that he was growing his hair out in an afro for the role.

Epps is just one of many talented actors who have been attached to Pryor projects including Marlon Wayans and Eddie Murphy. It’s still not clear what Oprah’s involvement is with the film. However, if I can take a guess, that she’ll probably serve as executive producer of it as she has done with The Hundred-Foot Journey  and Ava DuVernay’s Selma.

At any rate, congratulations Mike and stay tuned RC fans as more of this project continues to develop.
