TVLine.com is reporting that Butler actress, Yaya DaCosta has been cast as music icon Whitney Houston in the upcoming biopic. As previously reported, this Lifetime made-for-TV-film marks award-winning actress,Angela Bassett’s directorial debut and will focus on Houston’s marriage to her ex-husband Bobby Brownduring her meteoric rise to superstardom.
The film has not received the approval of the Houston family, who thinks Whitney’s life should be displayed on the big screen. Bobbi Kristina, daughter of Whitney and Bobby, has also spoken out against the film claiming that she would be the only person to play her mother as stated on BET.com.
DaCosta shot to fame as the runner-up of cycle three of America’s Next Top Model. Since that time, she has appeared on numerous television and film projects including All My Children, Ugly Betty, and House. She has also graced the cover of numerous magazines and television commercials.
Look for the untitled ‘Whitney Houston’ project to debut in 2015.
