CNN is reporting that R&B sensation Chris Brown is being held in a Virginia jail on Thursday as he awaits the trial in Washington D.C. for a misdemeanor assault.  The 24-year-old performer was transported across the country from California to Virginia via the federal government’s Justic Prisoner and Alien Transportation System known as “Con Air.”

TMZ reports that Brown has been placed in limited general population with no restrictions, giving him access to showers, TV, library, telephone, exercise and meals in the cafeteria.

Brown is in trouble for assaulting a young man after a concert at DC’s Howard University last fall. He and his bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy are both being charged in the incident.  The trial is set for April 19 or 21.

Sources are saying that once the trial has concluded the “Fine China” singer will be transported back to Los Angeles. However, if he is acquitted in the trial, his lawyer, Mark Geragos will try to get the judge to allow Brown to return to L.A. on his own.

Stay tuned…
