Congratulations to Cedric “The Entertainer.” The stand-up comedian and star of the TV Land series ‘The Soul Man’ has been named the new host of ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.” The game show was currently being hosted by former “View” star Meredith Vieira.
ABC announced the big news today stating that Cedric will join the nationally syndicated show when it returns in the fall for its 12 season.
“We are thrilled to announce that Cedric ‘The Entertainer’ will be at the helm as our new host of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,'” said Janice Marinelli, president, Disney-ABC Domestic Television. “With his deep roots as a successful stand-up comedian and actor, Cedric will bring his fresh approach and unpredictable fun to the show.”
Vicki Dummer, executive vice president, Times Square Studios says, “Cedric ‘The Entertainer’ is the perfect person to take the ‘Millionaire’ franchise to the next level…an immensely talented performer with widespread appeal, Cedric will no doubt infuse his gregarious personality and humor into the show.”
Cedric will be the third host in the show’s history. He replaces Vieira, who launched the weekday version of the game show in 2002 and remained the host for 11 seasons. The first host was former daytime TV star and beloved personality, Regis Philbin.
Cedric will be in good company consider his BFF, Steve Harvey host Family Feud, Wayne Brady hosts Let’s Make a Deal and Kirk Franklin is the new musical host of The Great American Bible Challenge.
Kudos to you Cedric!
