2013 is already shaping up to be a big year for Black actors in film and television. Check out a few of our favorites who will make appearances next year on the big and small screen.

First up!

Angela Bassett has been added to the cast of the upcoming flick, White Bird in a Blizzard.  The film, which also stars Gabourey Sidibe, recounts the story of a troubled woman whose life changes after the disappearance of her mother.  Bassett spilled the beans on her Facebook page saying, “Filming the new Gregg Araki movie today with Gabby Sidibe, very excited!”  Also look for Bassett to appear in Lifetime’s Betty and Coretta  with Mary J. Blige in 2013.

British actress Marianne Jean-Baptiste will play a mad scientist in the Tom Cruise thriller, All You Need is Kill.  Cruise plays a soldier in a war with aliens, who find himself in a time warp during his last day of battle.  Principle photography has started and the film is expected to hit theaters in 2014!

In Living Color  creator Keenan Ivory Wayans will make a guest appearance on the TV Land comedy Happily Divorced.  The show, which stars Fran Drescher as a LA Florist who discovers her husband of 18 years is gay, also stars Tichina Arnold as Drescher’s best friend.  Wayans will play Arnold’s ex-boyfriend.  This is his first appearance on a sitcom since his brother’s show, My Wife and Kids  back in 2001.

Regina King has landed a role on the CBS comedy The Big Bang Theory.  King will play the director of employee relations at the university where Jim Parson’s character, Sheldon works.  This may also be a reoccurring role for King, who currently stars in the TNT cop drama Southland.  Also look for King’s made for television film Let the Church Say Amen  to air in 2013 on BET starring Naturi Naughton and Demetria McKinney.
